SketchUp

OBJ & STL

An opened model becomes a Prompt2CAD project. The agent can inspect its structure, work on its parts, and add geometry while the source remains part of the evolving design.
Work at part level
Use imported names and physical-part boundaries to target one component. Change the bracket without rebuilding the housing, or replace one leg without disturbing the table.
Mix imported and parametric geometry
Add dimension-driven holes, mounts, panels, enclosures, furniture, or fixtures around an existing model. The assembly can contain source geometry and newly generated CAD together.
Use another file as context
When a file should inform the design without joining it, attach it beside a Direct prompt. The agent can inspect dimensions and parts, then include the source only when your request calls for it.

Frequently asked questions
Which CAD and 3D formats can I import?
Prompt2CAD opens DWG, DXF, SketchUp (.skp), OBJ, STL, GLB, and self-contained glTF files. STEP, IGES, native SolidWorks or Fusion files, and glTF files that depend on external .bin buffers are not supported yet.
Is an imported model editable in Prompt2CAD?
Yes. An opened model becomes part of a normal Prompt2CAD project: the agent can inspect dimensions and parts, modify targeted components, add parametric features, replace geometry, assemble new parts around it, and export the combined result.
Does Prompt2CAD preserve the original model?
Prompt2CAD keeps source geometry where that preserves the most fidelity and changes the parts your request targets. This lets an assembly combine faithful imported geometry with parametric additions instead of approximating every untouched component.
What is the difference between opening and attaching a file?
Open CAD file creates a project and places the model in the viewport immediately. A file attached beside a Direct prompt starts as context: the agent can inspect it without placing it, and can include it in the assembly when the request requires the source geometry.
Can I import a DWG floor plan and turn it into a 3D room?
Yes. Supported DWG and DXF model-space linework opens at its measured scale, grouped by layer. The agent can use the wall runs, openings, and shown object footprints to plan and build a parametric 3D room. CAD text and dimension annotations are not imported, so provide critical labels and heights in the prompt.
Does importing use credits?
Opening and parsing a file does not consume AI credits, but sign-in is required to create the project. Requests that ask the agent to inspect, modify, or extend the model use the normal chat-credit flow.
What are the import limits?
A source file can be up to 50 MB, with up to 2,000,000 triangles or 500,000 drawing-reference segments. Confirm source units during import; a millimeter-versus-meter mismatch changes model scale by 1,000 times.
