The model is built at real-world scale with explicit numbers. A 36-inch workbench stays 36 inches. When you change a dimension, everything that depends on it updates.
Every change is a sentence
"Widen the alcove to 2.9 m", "move the wheels back a bit", "make the flange 0.5 mm thicker". You never touch a modeling tool — the agent translates your words into geometry operations.
A parts list from the model
The finished design yields a list of parts with stable IDs, dimensions, quantities, and materials. Download it as CSV — a starting point for buying stock or getting a quote.
Exports that leave the app
STEP and DXF open cleanly in FreeCAD, Fusion, and SOLIDWORKS. STL and 3MF go to your slicer. The model is yours to continue in whatever tool the job requires.
Real CAD — not a polygon-soup mesh
Many "AI 3D" tools generate a mesh: a triangle surface that can work well for a render or some additive-manufacturing workflows, but does not natively carry parametric dimensions or solid-CAD interchange. Prompt2CAD outputs parametric CAD geometry. Dimensions are real numbers you can read and tune. Coordinates are modeled at real-world scale. And the model exports to STEP and DXF that open cleanly in the CAD tools professionals already use — so what you describe is what a fabricator receives.
Common questions
Do I need any CAD experience to use this?
No. You describe what you want to build in normal language and the CAD agent handles the modeling operations — the part of traditional CAD that takes months to learn. You review dimensions, give feedback in sentences, and export when it's right.
How is this different from SketchUp or Fusion 360?
Those tools require you to learn the software: work planes, sketch constraints, modeling operations. Prompt2CAD replaces that learning curve with conversation. You still get real CAD output — STEP files that open in those same tools — but you don't need to operate them to get a precise model.
Is this a mesh generator like other AI 3D tools?
No. Prompt2CAD is built to generate parametric CAD geometry, not polygon surfaces. Mesh tools can be useful for visual work and some 3D-printing workflows, but they do not natively provide parametric editing or solid-CAD interchange. Prompt2CAD gives you real dimensions to revise and inspect part by part, then export to CAD formats such as STEP and DXF.
What if I don't know the exact dimensions yet?
Start with what you know — even just the type of object and rough sizes. The agent proposes sensible standard dimensions and you correct them by conversation or with sliders as you measure and decide. The model is adjustable at every step.
Can a real CAD user continue from my model?
Yes. Exports include STEP for solid CAD interchange and DXF for compatible CAD tools, plus STL, OBJ, and GLB. A drafter, engineer, or cabinet maker can open the exported geometry in compatible software and use it as a starting point for the required production details, rather than rebuilding from a screenshot.
